If you’ve landed on this page, you’re trying to choose between Bali’s three big adrenaline experiences: tandem skydiving, paragliding, and bungee jumping. Each is intensely marketed, often by the same booking platforms, and the marketing makes them sound interchangeable. They’re not. They deliver completely different sensations, demand different physical and psychological profiles, and price out at radically different levels.
This guide is written by the operations team at Sky Dive Bali, who run the only commercial tandem skydive operation launching in West Bali. We’re not paid to recommend paragliding or bungee — we just genuinely want first-time adventurers to make the right choice and not be disappointed. Here’s the honest breakdown.

Tandem Skydiving in Bali
Tandem skydiving is the only activity on this list where you exit a moving aircraft at 14,000 feet. You’re harnessed to a USPA-certified instructor, exit together, and freefall for 60 seconds at terminal velocity (~200 km/h) before your instructor deploys the parachute for a 4–5 minute canopy descent over Pantai Kelating in Tabanan or Buleleng in North Bali.
What it feels like: First 5 seconds is shock — your brain hasn’t processed yet. Seconds 5–60 are pure flow state, terminal-velocity freefall with 360-degree views. Canopy phase is calm and scenic.
Who it’s for: Bucket-listers, photographers, people who want the most intense experience. Age 18+ (16+ with parental consent), under 100 kg, no recent surgery or pregnancy.
The deal-breaker: Weight limit is firm. If you’re over 100 kg, no operator on Earth will jump you tandem.
Hidden cost: Travel insurance with adventure-sport rider (USD 50–100) — most standard policies exclude skydiving entirely.
Paragliding is fundamentally different from skydiving despite the visual similarity. You launch from a coastal cliff or hillside, ride thermal updrafts in a wing-shaped soft canopy, and stay airborne for 20–30 minutes (sometimes longer with good thermals). Bali’s main paragliding sites are Timbis Beach (south coast, the most reliable site), Nusa Dua, and Uluwatu. The takeoff is a running launch from a cliff edge — there’s no aircraft involved.
What it feels like: Calmer than skydive. Strong wind on launch, then quiet floating with bird-level cliff views. Less intensity, more meditation.
Who it’s for: People who want the aerial view but not the freefall shock. Anyone weight 35–110 kg can fly tandem. Age limits: typically 5–80.
Best site: Timbis Beach, Nusa Dua peninsula. Operators like Bali Paragliding, Sport’s Bali, and Riug.
Booking note: Heavily weather-dependent. Wind below 15 km/h means no flight. Tour operators try to fill multi-stop tours which adds 4–6 hours of waiting.

Bungee Jumping in Bali
Bungee jumping is the shortest, sharpest hit on this list. You stand on a platform 50–60 meters up (Seminyak’s AJ Hackett tower or the Nusa Penida cliff jump), get rigged to an elastic cord, and step off the edge. The freefall is approximately 2.5–4 seconds before the cord tensions and rebounds. The whole experience from countdown to safe ground is under 60 seconds.
What it feels like: Sharp peak fear at the edge — the hardest mental moment of any adrenaline sport. Then a sub-3-second freefall, then the rebound. Many people describe it as more scary than fun.
Who it’s for: Adrenaline addicts who specifically want the peak-fear moment. Weight 40–110 kg, age 12+ (with parental consent under 18).
Top spots: AJ Hackett Bali (Kuta) — the best-known operator with 60m tower; Nusa Penida cliff jump for the more dramatic backdrop.
Watch out: Cheaper “bungee” attractions in Bali use shorter cords with reduced freefall — the experience is much less dramatic. AJ Hackett’s tower is the real deal.
Head-to-Head: How They Actually Compare
Adrenaline Profile
Skydive delivers sustained adrenaline — 60 seconds of pure freefall is long enough to hit flow state. Bungee delivers sharp peak adrenaline — under 4 seconds of intensity then it’s over. Paragliding isn’t really an adrenaline sport in the same category; it’s more akin to scenic flight than thrill ride.
Risk Profile (Statistical)
Per professional safety records: tandem skydiving has a fatality rate of approximately 0.003 per 1,000 jumps (USPA data). Tandem paragliding with USHPA-certified instructors runs roughly 0.001 per 1,000 flights. Bungee jumping with regulated operators (AJ Hackett class) is approximately 0.0002 per 1,000 jumps. All three are statistically safer than driving the equivalent distance to the activity site.
Cost-Per-Second of Excitement
This is unfair but useful. Bungee: ~Rp 750,000 ÷ 4 seconds = Rp 187,500 per second. Skydive: ~USD 1,200 ÷ 360 seconds (full air-time including canopy) = ~USD 3.3 per second. Paragliding: ~Rp 1,000,000 ÷ 1,500 seconds (25 min flight) = Rp 667 per second. Skydive is best value if you want sustained intensity.
Photo and Video Output
Skydive includes professional dual-angle helmet camera footage and outside camera (handcam + outside operator) — typically 20+ photos and a 2–3 minute edited video. Paragliding includes pilot’s GoPro footage. Bungee typically includes a single-angle on-platform camera, sometimes for an additional fee. For social media output, skydive is the clear winner.
How to Choose
Choose skydive if: you want maximum adrenaline, scenic value, and shareable footage; budget USD 1,200+ is OK; under 100 kg, no pregnancy, no recent surgery.
Choose paragliding if: you want the aerial view experience without the freefall shock; sensitive to motion or have ear/sinus issues that rule out high-altitude jumps; weight is over 100 kg.
Choose bungee if: you specifically want to test how you handle peak fear at the edge; you have a tight budget; you want a quick hit you can fit between other activities.
Do all three if: you have a 7–10 day Bali itinerary and a real adrenaline budget. They’re complementary, not redundant.
Combining All Three (and Beyond)
If your trip is 7+ days and you want the complete Bali adrenaline circuit, here’s the optimal sequencing:
Day 1–2: Arrive, recover from jet lag, scout your hotel.
Day 3: Paragliding at Timbis (morning) — the calmest activity, good warm-up.
Day 4: Bungee jump at AJ Hackett Kuta (evening, after a beach day).
Day 5: Tandem skydive at Sky Dive Bali (morning, the peak experience).
Day 6–7: Recovery + sailing Komodo with Komodo Luxury for sea-after-sky completion.
Slightly — tandem paragliding has a marginally lower fatality rate per flight than tandem skydiving. But both are statistically safer than driving the equivalent distance. Don’t choose based on safety statistics; choose based on the experience profile you want.
Can I do skydiving and bungee jumping on the same day?
Physically yes, but we don’t recommend it. The post-skydive adrenaline crash usually hits 2–3 hours after landing, and bungee jumping during that crash is a bad combination. Space them at least 24 hours apart.
Which is best for first-time adventurers?
Paragliding is the easiest entry point — calmer, lower stakes, 30 minutes of beautiful scenery. Bungee is the hardest mentally because the entire experience is built around the moment of stepping off the edge. Skydive is somewhere in between — once you exit the aircraft, your brain takes over and the freefall feels surprisingly natural.
What’s the weight limit for each?
Skydive: 100 kg max (firm, harness-rated). Paragliding: typically 110 kg max. Bungee jumping: 110 kg max at AJ Hackett. If you’re over 100 kg, paragliding or bungee are your best options.
Is bungee jumping legal in Bali?
Yes, with regulated operators. AJ Hackett Bali in Kuta is the gold standard — same equipment standards as their New Zealand operations. Avoid unregulated cliff-jump tour operators in Nusa Penida who don’t carry New Zealand or international bungee certification.
What’s the best season for all three activities?
April through October — Bali’s dry season. Skydive operations are weather-locked above all three (they need cloud ceiling > 6,000 ft and surface winds < 25 knots). Paragliding needs steady thermals (typically 9 AM–3 PM dry season). Bungee operates year-round but afternoon thunderstorms can pause operations.
