My heart was pounding, a rhythmic drumbeat against my ribs as I looked out over Bali. My name is Susan, and skydiving here was a dream I’d chased for years. There are a few options if you’re looking to jump in Bali. Most jumps happen between 10,000 and 13,000 feet, which gives you a fantastic 45–60 seconds of freefall. Standard prices typically range from IDR 3,500,000 to IDR 5,000,000. If you want photo or video packages, which I highly recommend, expect to pay IDR 4.5–6 million. The Skydive Bali – Tabanan Region, about 30 km northwest of Denpasar, offers incredible views of lush rice paddies and black-sand beaches. Skydive Toucan, closer to Seminyak or Canggu (about 20 km from Denpasar), gives you those classic coastal scenic jumps. My jump was exactly what they call an “oco Bali beach jump.” Imagine that blue ocean stretching out forever as you descend. It’s breathtaking. While most jumps are from smaller aircraft, there’s a truly unique annual skydive event. It only happens one week in June, usually around June 20–25. This requires special permissions from the Indonesian Air Force and Government, and you get to jump from a C-130 Hercules with 90 other participants. It’s a massive operation, and an incredible experience if you can time your trip for it. For my jump, though, the standard tandem from a smaller plane was more than enough thrill. The feeling of the wind, the view, it was all I’d imagined and more.
